Nestled on the pristine shores of Lopez Island in Washington's San Juan Islands, Cascadia Marine Trail Campsite at Spencer Spit State Park offers RV travelers a truly unique Pacific Northwest camping experience. This waterfront destination captures the natural beauty and peaceful character that makes the San Juan Islands such a beloved destination for outdoor enthusiasts seeking escape from the everyday.

Spencer Spit State Park stretches across 130 acres of scenic coastal landscape, featuring a distinctive natural sand spit that extends into the waters of the San Juan Strait. The park's location on Lopez Island, one of the more accessible islands in the archipelago, makes it an ideal base for exploring this remarkable region. The campsite itself provides direct access to the beach and marine environment, allowing visitors to wake up to views of the water and surrounding islands while experiencing the therapeutic sounds of waves and wildlife.

The area surrounding the park is rich with natural attractions and outdoor recreational opportunities. Hiking trails wind through the forested portions of the state park, offering shaded walks among native Douglas firs and opportunities to spot local wildlife including deer and numerous bird species. The marine waters are perfect for kayaking and boating, with calm conditions in many areas ideal for paddlers of varying skill levels. Fishing opportunities abound, and the beaches provide excellent areas for beachcombing and tide pooling, where visitors can explore the fascinating ecosystems exposed during low tide.

Lopez Island itself embodies the slower pace and natural charm characteristic of the San Juan Islands. The island community is welcoming and small-scale, with local shops, galleries, and eateries that reflect the artistic and nature-loving character of island life. Visitors appreciate the island's quiet roads perfect for cycling, farm stands offering fresh local produce, and a genuine sense of connection to the natural environment.

This campsite particularly appeals to those seeking a serene waterfront experience, nature lovers interested in marine ecosystems, families wanting to introduce children to island camping, and travelers drawn to the unique geography and lifestyle of the San Juan Islands. The combination of direct beach access, state park amenities, and the island's natural beauty creates a memorable RV camping destination.

Perfect time of year for ocean spray. It was billowing everywhere and the scent In the morning was Devine. The Hosts were great. Lot of space between sites. Bathrooms were clean and they had a play ground for the kids. Nice hikes within the park and a long the spit. Boat and bike rentals too!

An absolutely wonderful campground! The sites have good privacy and quite a bit of shade. The beach is beautiful and not crowded. If you are looking for a couples camping experience, I recommend a stay during the week as there are less young ones. Biking, hiking, exploring and beaches are an amazing experience here. Great Park. Clean and well hosted campground, space between the sites, all sorts of trails, and short hikes. ample wildlife for a homan occupied area. Don't miss out on the shoreline. come by car, by boat, by bicycle. this is a solid choice.

Nice campground with really friendly and helpful camp hosts. The beach isn’t super great for swimming but it’s still fun. The bathrooms are clean. We had a great time and loved exploring the island. Cell service is super spotty to non-existent on the whole island but on the left of the spit you can get the best service. I give it five stars, but from a boater's perspective, it deserves less. I must say this place is very popular, but I simply cannot see why. #1 It is a spit, so it is out in the wind. I give it five stars, but from a boater's perspective, it deserves less. I must say this place is very popular, but I simply cannot see why. #1 It is a spit, so it is out in the wind. We have been cruising the San Juans for decades, and it is always blowing here. The one good thing about the spit is that there is always a lee shore with a buoy where you can get away from the wind driven waves but not the wind itself. #2 It's a long walk to the park bathrooms, nuff said. #3 There is a swampy area on the spit, making transporting and pushing bikes a pain. The park is nice and fairly big for those coming by car, but for boaters, it is just a windy place to grab a buoy. I'll post a pic of my wife and son on a day when there was no wind.
