About Sheep Lake Trailhead

The Sheep Lake Trailhead has two locations. The north Trailhead is located adjacent to Deep Creek Campground. The south Trailhead is located adjacent to the the Brooklyn Lake Campground. The trail (#389) is 8.2 miles in length between the two campgrounds. The trail provides access to the Gap Lakes Trail (#108) about midway between the two campgrounds. This trail is managed by the Brush/Creek Hayden Ranger District and is located in the Snowy Range.

Sheep Lake Trailhead offers RV campers a gateway to some of Wyoming's most stunning wilderness experiences. Nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountain region, this public campground provides an ideal base for outdoor enthusiasts seeking adventure, natural beauty, and a genuine connection with the land. The area surrounding Sheep Lake is characterized by dramatic mountain vistas, pristine alpine meadows, and the kind of quiet solitude that makes camping in Wyoming so special.

The location serves as a perfect jumping-off point for hikers, backpackers, and nature lovers who want to explore the surrounding trails and natural attractions. The trailhead access means you can enjoy everything from short day hikes to more ambitious backcountry expeditions right from your campsite. The landscape shifts seasonally, offering wildflower displays in summer, golden aspen groves in fall, and pristine snow-covered peaks in winter, giving the area distinct character throughout the year.

For those traveling by RV, the public campground setting means you'll experience a more rustic, authentic camping atmosphere. This is the kind of place where you wake up to mountain air, watch wildlife in their natural habitat, and experience the kind of starry night skies that remind you why people love camping. The relative remoteness of the area means fewer crowds than developed parks, making it ideal for travelers seeking peace and quiet.

Nearby, visitors will find Wyoming's incredible outdoor recreation opportunities. The region offers excellent fishing in alpine lakes and streams, wildlife viewing where you might spot elk, mule deer, and other native species, and photography opportunities that capture the raw beauty of the American West. The campground appeals to families wanting to introduce children to backcountry exploration, couples seeking a romantic mountain retreat, and serious outdoor adventurers looking for authentic wilderness access.

The surrounding area has a rich history tied to ranching, mining, and frontier settlement, adding cultural depth to your camping experience. Whether you're an avid hiker, casual nature observer, or simply someone who wants to disconnect and recharge in a beautiful setting, Sheep Lake Trailhead provides that opportunity in one of America's most spectacular states.
