About Vedauwoo Campground (Tent)

Campground in Wyoming.

Nestled in the scenic Laramie Range of southeastern Wyoming, Vedauwoo Campground offers tent campers an exceptional outdoor experience in one of the region's most distinctive landscapes. The campground sits at an elevation of approximately 8,000 feet, providing a refreshing escape from lower elevations and creating ideal conditions for summer camping adventures. The name "Vedauwoo" comes from the Native American Arapaho word meaning "earthborn," and the landscape certainly lives up to that evocative name with its dramatic granite rock formations that rise majestically throughout the area.

The geological wonder surrounding this campground makes it a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. The towering granite boulders and unique rock formations create a landscape unlike most other camping areas in the region, offering visitors an almost otherworldly setting. Rock climbers from across the country flock to Vedauwoo for its world-class climbing opportunities, with hundreds of established routes suitable for various skill levels. Even if climbing isn't your primary interest, the striking scenery makes for exceptional hiking, photography, and simply appreciating nature's architectural masterpieces.

Laramie, located just minutes away, serves as a convenient base for supplies and additional attractions. This vibrant college town offers restaurants, shops, and cultural attractions including the University of Wyoming campus. The town provides easy access to outdoor recreation while maintaining the amenities tent campers might need during their stay. The proximity to town makes Vedauwoo ideal for those who want to balance backcountry camping experiences with convenient access to services.

The forested areas around the campground provide natural shade and shelter, with ponderosa pines and other high-elevation vegetation creating a peaceful camping atmosphere. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with possibilities to see elk, deer, and various bird species. The cooler mountain temperatures make this an excellent choice for summer camping when lower elevations become uncomfortably hot.

This destination appeals to tent campers seeking authentic outdoor experiences, adventure seekers looking for climbing and hiking opportunities, and nature lovers who appreciate dramatic geological formations and mountain scenery. The combination of accessible location, stunning natural features, and recreational opportunities makes Vedauwoo a cherished destination for those exploring Wyoming's outdoor treasures.

Fantastic. Really cool campsites from large RV sites to car camping to walk in. Lots of areas to explore and if you like to scramble around on boulders there may be no better place. The roads are paved and the bathrooms were in great condition.

Spectacular. Mother nature is spell-binding. A very nice campground with grills and fabulous views. The spots are spaced out enough to give you some privacy and let you enjoy nature.

Awesome little campground. Be forewarned, there is a little interstate noise, a bit of wind, and some mice. None of them have affected our stay. Amazing scenery, a close hiking 3 mile trail, and beautiful sunsets. Oh, and plenty of places to climb if that's your thing.

The area is neat. Would of given it 5 stars but for some reason people have no boundaries here. Just about everyday people walk through, or ride the bike through our campsite. 🤪 crazy.

This is an absolutely beautiful campground in Eastern Wyoming! It's primitive camping so there's no electricity or plumbing on site but the views are stunning. Every site has a fire ring & picnic table. The registration is kind of confusing since there is nobody on site to help. It's done on the honor system & campground personnel only come out a couple times a week to clean restrooms & pick up re... This is an absolutely beautiful campground in Eastern Wyoming! Like I said before, the views are beautiful!
