About Vedauwoo Campground (WY)

Federal campground in Wyoming.

Nestled in the stunning Laramie Range just minutes from Laramie, Wyoming, Vedauwoo Campground offers RV travelers an extraordinary gateway to one of the West's most dramatic landscapes. The name Vedauwoo comes from a Native American word meaning "land of the earthiness," and once you arrive, you'll understand exactly why this place earned that poetic designation. Towering granite rock formations rise dramatically from the surrounding ponderosa pine forest, creating a landscape that feels both rugged and welcoming.

This public campground serves as the perfect basecamp for outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. Rock climbers from around the world consider Vedauwoo one of the premier climbing destinations in North America, with hundreds of established routes ranging from beginner-friendly to expert-level challenges. But you don't need climbing experience to appreciate the area's natural beauty. Hikers will find numerous trails winding through the formations and forest, offering everything from leisurely walks to more challenging day hikes with spectacular viewpoints.

The location positions you perfectly for exploring everything the Laramie area has to offer. The charming college town of Laramie sits just twenty minutes away, featuring excellent restaurants, shops, and cultural attractions including the University of Wyoming. The Snowy Range Mountains provide additional outdoor recreation opportunities, while the Laramie Plains offer wide open spaces and authentic Wyoming character that captures the spirit of the American West.

Wildlife viewing opportunities abound throughout the area. Mule deer, elk, and various bird species inhabit the region, making early mornings and evenings particularly rewarding for nature observers. The elevation of around 8,000 feet provides cooler temperatures during summer months, making it an ideal escape from the heat of lower elevations. Fall colors paint the landscape in brilliant hues, while spring brings wildflowers and fresh mountain breezes.

Whether you're seeking adventure on rock or trail, peaceful time surrounded by natural beauty, or a comfortable base for exploring south-central Wyoming, Vedauwoo delivers an authentic high-country RV experience that combines accessibility with genuine wilderness character.

Fantastic. Really cool campsites from large RV sites to car camping to walk in. Lots of areas to explore and if you like to scramble around on boulders there may be no better place. The roads are paved and the bathrooms were in great condition.

Spectacular. Mother nature is spell-binding. A very nice campground with grills and fabulous views. The spots are spaced out enough to give you some privacy and let you enjoy nature.

Awesome little campground. Be forewarned, there is a little interstate noise, a bit of wind, and some mice. None of them have affected our stay. Amazing scenery, a close hiking 3 mile trail, and beautiful sunsets. Oh, and plenty of places to climb if that's your thing.

The area is neat. Would of given it 5 stars but for some reason people have no boundaries here. Just about everyday people walk through, or ride the bike through our campsite. 🤪 crazy.

This is an absolutely beautiful campground in Eastern Wyoming! It's primitive camping so there's no electricity or plumbing on site but the views are stunning. Every site has a fire ring & picnic table. The registration is kind of confusing since there is nobody on site to help. The registration is kind of confusing since there is nobody on site to help. It's done on the honor system & campground personnel only come out a couple times a week to clean restrooms & pick up registrations. Make sure you bring cash to pay for registration since there is no way to use credit or debit cards. This campground is a great place to do some hiking, rock climbing, & scenic photography though. Like I said before, the views are beautiful!
