About Waterdog Lake Hunting Camp

Campground in Wyoming.

Waterdog Lake Hunting Camp offers a genuine Wyoming outdoor experience nestled in the heart of prime hunting and fishing country. This public campground serves as an ideal base for outdoor enthusiasts seeking authentic access to the region's natural resources and stunning landscapes. The setting provides visitors with a true taste of high country camping, where the air is crisp and the surroundings remain refreshingly undeveloped.

The campground's location makes it particularly attractive for hunters and anglers who understand the value of being positioned close to productive grounds. The lake itself becomes a focal point for activity, drawing visitors interested in fishing throughout the seasons. The surrounding terrain showcases the dramatic beauty characteristic of Wyoming's backcountry, with wide open vistas and natural vegetation that define this corner of the state. Early mornings and evenings here offer peaceful moments where the pace of modern life seems distant.

For those planning extended stays, the campground provides essential services while maintaining a rustic character that appeals to visitors seeking an authentic outdoor experience rather than extensive amenities. The relatively modest facilities mean you're camping in a setting that feels closer to nature. This approach attracts a community of like-minded outdoor enthusiasts who value access to hunting, fishing, and exploration over resort-style conveniences.

The region surrounding Waterdog Lake offers opportunities for exploring Wyoming's vast landscapes. Hiking trails wind through surrounding terrain, and the general area provides excellent wildlife viewing possibilities. The changing seasons bring different characteristics to the experience, from summer fishing opportunities to fall hunting season preparations. Winter transforms the landscape into a stark, beautiful environment that appeals to hardy adventurers.

This campground particularly suits experienced campers, hunters, and fishing enthusiasts who appreciate public lands access and straightforward camping infrastructure. Families seeking outdoor education and connection with nature also find value here. The community of visitors tends to be respectful of the environment and fellow campers, creating a collegial atmosphere among those who understand and appreciate what this type of destination offers.

Beautiful place!! Their restaurant and amenities were far better than in Yellowstone. The food was top class!! Great service. We stayed in the cabins. We had our own restroom. Pets everywhere! I was nice to see them around!

The odd thing is the sewage system, I don't understand why it is so high above the ground, but you can live with it. We didn't use the shared showers and toilets, but it is very useful that there is a laundry room, gas station and a store, although the prices are higher than usual. The wifi is pretty weak, but if you have AT&T it is not a problem, the internet and connection works great in this place, but you are unlikely to get internet in Yellowstone itself. Beautiful views around, magical atmosphere, I am very glad I visited here!

We had a great 5-night stay at Headwaters campground. Nice spaces with electric and water, clean, warm shower and bathroom. Handy dishwashing station. Met some nice people there. NPS staff was great. The location between Yellowstone and Grand Teton cannot be beat.

Kids had a blast climbing up the boulders. They have NO EXPERIENCE climbing before this. Made multiple visits on our trip different areas each time. It's probably even a better place to climb if u know what you're doing. You can reach higher places a lot of times if u are an experienced climber.

Other wordly site to explore. Take time to enjoy the details and the big vistas. There is an accessible trail from some parking lots to picnic tables. You don't need to be a climber to love this place.

Visited here during the week, and toured the tent and RV campsites. Ended up finding a beautiful picnic spot in and around a beautiful gazebo. Nature is alive here! The rock formations are awesome!
