Nestled in the heart of Wyoming's vast wilderness, Big Piney Ranger District offers RV campers an authentic escape into one of America's most pristine natural landscapes. This National Forest setting provides the kind of outdoor experience that draws adventurers and nature lovers from across the country, offering stunning mountain vistas, abundant wildlife viewing opportunities, and access to some of the region's most remarkable hiking and outdoor recreation.

The Big Piney area sits in southwestern Wyoming, a region known for its dramatic elevation changes, evergreen forests, and sweeping high-country views. The landscape here tells the story of the American West, with rolling ridges covered in lodgepole pine and aspen groves that create a patchwork of color throughout the seasons. Summer brings wildflower meadows and mild temperatures perfect for exploration, while fall transforms the hillsides into brilliant displays of gold and crimson. Even winter visitors find beauty in the snow-blanketed peaks and quiet forest trails.

This location appeals strongly to hunters, anglers, and serious hikers who want to explore one of Wyoming's most remote and undeveloped ranger districts. The Big Piney area provides gateway access to some excellent fishing streams and backcountry routes. Wildlife enthusiasts frequently spot elk, mule deer, and other native species throughout the region. The Forest Service lands here maintain a more rustic camping experience compared to developed RV parks, attracting those seeking genuine solitude and connection with nature.

The surrounding communities, though small and traditional, offer essential services and supplies. This is quintessential high country camping where you can enjoy starry nights far from city lights, wake up to mountain air, and spend days discovering remote trails and waterways. The ranger district welcomes RV visitors looking to base themselves for extended outdoor adventures in one of Wyoming's most beautiful and least crowded areas. Whether you're planning a summer escape or a hunting expedition, this National Forest setting delivers an authentic Western experience.

This was pristine country until the government decided they needed to "improve it"! The primitive camping is wiped out and huge boulders put on the shoreline. WHY?? Makes no sense!! Who makes these decisions ?

Small campground, but gorgeous lake. I came in late, cooked some salmon, slept until sunrise, took in the view--and I was much refreshed.

This used to be an amazing place but a horribly mismanaged and drawn out dam project is destroying it and turning it into an eyesore. I don't know how the folks who designed this atrocity have jobs.
